Bloomington, IL. – The Bloomington Edge have signed defensive linemen Herbert Gonzales III and Rusmin Nikocevic for the upcoming 2018 season.
Gonzales previously played for Texas State University and most recently, the IFL's Arizona Rattlers. The San Antonio native was a three-time All-District defensive tackle at Southwest High School and proved his versatility, also nabbing First Team All-District honors as a tight end.
Head Coach Nick Ruud looks forward to working with Gonzales and according to the new Edge coach, the coaching staff can’t wait to see what he brings to the team.
“Herbert is an explosive, physical and nasty nose guard who is going to cause problems for teams in the IFL. He is exactly the type of player in the middle that defenses need to have success in this league” says Ruud.
One of Gonzales’ former teammates — Rusmin Nikocevic — has also been signed by the team. Nikocevic, a California native, previously played for L.A. Pierce College and Texas State University, where he lined up as a nose tackle.
“Having guys that have played together and had success is great for this organization. Rusmin was a captain his senior year and Herbert was selected as the teams "big cat" award for performance in the weight room," Ruud reflected. "These guys are going to push each other and their teammates."
"Having the built in chemistry that we are looking to promote on this team," Ruud went on to say. "Signing these two guys is the step towards what we need to have a lights out defensive unit.”
The Edge are thrilled to bring home a championship this upcoming season and is excited to move forward with both of these phenomenal players. For further inquiries about season tickets or the Edge please contact (702) 525-3868 or email Charles@bloomingtonedge.net
