Bloomington, IL. In a game that was expected to be Bloomingtons toughest competition of the year, the Edge put together another dominant performance in a 78-18 rout of the New England Bobcats Saturday night at Grossinger Motors Arena. The Edge is a perfect 4-0 on the season. The first quarter lived up to the hype with big plays and both teams finding the end zone twice. New England scored with a 46 yard touchdown pass on their opening possession. Bloomington responded when quarterback QuinTon Fonville connected with Dwiuan White for a 21 yard score just two minutes later. After another New England touchdown, Fonville connected with Edge first year wide receiver Shawnn Mitchell from 16 yards out giving Bloomington a 13-12 lead after one quarter. From that point on New England didnt see the end zone again until the 4th quarter, but Bloomington kept right on scoring. Fonville accounted for eight touchdown passes in total. In addition to his two first quarter touchdowns, he connected with Edge newcomer Dlron Simmons three times, Marcus Lewis once, and tossed a second TD to White with 20 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. Fonville scored his 8th touchdown of the game on a quarterback draw in the 4th quarter. The Edge defense turned in another stellar performance. Mitch Globe led the team in tackles with 8. Globe, Brad Wolf and David Powell each had a sack, and Jeremiah Mitchell and David Alvarez recorded two interceptions apiece. Mitchell returned his second one 46 yards for a touchdown in the final minute of the game to extend the Edge lead to 60. The Bloomington Edge is off this week and will close out their season on August 12th. The season finale is a Sunday afternoon game with a special 2pm kick-off time to celebrate Grandparents Day presented by Heritage Operations Group.
